public transportation

1. Life Hacks for Using Public Transportation

According to the American Public Transportation Association,

A person can reduce his or her chance of being in an accident by more than 90% simply by taking public transit as opposed to commuting by car.

Traveling by public transportation is 10 times safer per mile than traveling by automobile.

Not only is public transportation considered “safer” but it's also growing and popular among millennials.  Since 1995, public transportation ridership has increased by 30%, which is higher than the growth rate of the U.S. population at 22%.

Millennials consider public transportation as the best option for digital socializing and among the best for connecting with communities.

If you're an advocate of the bus, light rail, subway, train, streetcar,  vanpool, ferries, monorails, or other types of public transportation, help other people understand why they should consider the benefits of taking public transportation and how best to go about their travels.

The “sub-niches” here are endless.

Public transportation while traveling, big cities, small towns, scheduling, planning, best practices, etc…

2. I'm Somewhere on a Beach

People love going to the beach.  There's something special about the warmth of the sun, sand on your toes, and waves crashing up on your legs.

NYU research states:

21% of families have taken their children to an all-inclusive resort for vacation, 68% on a family road trip, and 68% on a beach vacation (NYU)

According to Trip Advisor:

57% of global travelers take a beach vacation (Trip Advisor)

And let's not forget the millennials:

40% of Millennial travelers are likely to visit a beach resort in the next year (Resonance Consultancy)

We are always looking for the next big beach vacation. Something old, something new, something borrowed? Something blue?… Oh wait…

If you're a frequent traveler (or you want to be). Helping people with different budgets, goals, and family situations choose the best beach vacation would be a great idea for a blog in 2019.

You don't even have to go to Fiji or Navagio…

Just do the research, provide the data, and show the numbers.  People can google the top 15 best beaches in the world.  It's about going above and beyond that to show which people belong at these beaches and why.

Not to mention you could do wonders on Instagram in this niche…

“I blog about Travel, specifically Cruise travel. My best advice to someone starting a travel blog is to write for your audience and not for you. While your blog can include your own travels, it’s not a diary. Think about what value it brings to your reader and make sure you write with that in mind.”

3. Hidden Gems Right Down the Highway

Beaches are fun, and so is Disneyland.

But have you ever considered the fun in your “own backyard?”

We're always looking for something to do on a sunny weekend with the family.  The weathers nice let's get out of the house! But not spend $3,000 to visit Mickey Mouse…(oh that rhymed!)

Blogging about the “hidden gems” to visit in your home state, or even the United States (if you're feeling adventerous) would be really interesting for a lot of different types of people.

Not everyone has the budget to go to Disneyland, or Hawaii, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun just down the highway.  There are a plethera of places to go and things to do that not many people are talking about.

“Blogging was my way of sharing that with friends and family who are far away. I live in Alaska now and keeping in touch can be difficult if not impossible due to unreliable cell reception. That being said, the best part about blogging about national parks is fostering the appreciation for them. I’m a park ranger because I care about these places and want visitors to care about them as well. I blog about them in the hope that I’m encouraging more and more people to get out there and see them.”

Riley Hays – RileysRoves.com

Find these gems and explore them.  Think outside the box.  Take that exit that you've never taken to the potato museum or the place you can be in 4 states at once.

There are 53 Saturdays in a year.  I think too many people spend most of them on the couch.

4. Homeopathic Berries Make You Merry

“Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!”

That was the first time I'd ever heard of elderberries, and I didn't know they still existed till 2019.  Elderberries are all the rage for their healing properties and natural remedies.

According to Pinterest trends to watch in 2019:

Elderberries are on the rise thanks to their healthy and anti-inflammatory effects. (Searches for elderberry recipes +685%)

People are all about the berries!

We're seeing a global trend towards homeopathic remedies for the common cold, pain, skin, anxiety, and all sorts of conditions.

Check out the U.S. per capita consumption of berries from 2000-2015:

There's a lot to love about berries, and people want to know why.

5. Smoothies Always Go Down Smooth!

“What should we call this slushy drink thing that goes down smooth when you drink it?”

“…How 'bout Smoothie!”

That's how I imagine the first conversation went when someone decided to call smoothies – smoothies.

Who doesn't like smoothies though? Honestly…

If you love smoothies why not get creative with it? Blogging about smoothies provides a lot of directions you could go.  Places to buy smoothies, best smoothies to buy, when to buy, how to buy, why to buy, why to MAKE, how to make, unique recipes… There's a lot you can do with the smoothie thing.

Forget the taste… Just watching all those ingredients blend together into a puree is almost as satisfying as those soap cutting videos on Instagram! (hint hint)

sleeping disorder

6. Sleeping Like a Baby

If you have a baby you're probably thinking this sounds like a horrible blog topic idea as your baby is crying hysterically at 2 am…

Call it what you want, but sleeping is something that many people struggle with to some extent.

According to the American Sleep Association:

50-70 million US adults have a sleep disorder.

25 Million U.S. adults have obstructive sleep apnea.

35.3% adults report <7 hours of sleep during a typical 24-hour period.

Have you ever personally searched for, read, watched, or clicked on something related to sleeping on the internet or social media?

I know I have…

There are A LOT of ways you can blog about sleeping, and it doesn't just have to be for adults.  You could focus down even more specific on babies, kids, teens, young adults, or older adults.

You don't have to be a doctor to blog about sleeping, and you don't have to be a good sleeper yourself either!  Write about what you're trying out and testing for yourself.  Interview others, put out surveys…

There's a ton of opportunity here.

As time becomes more valuable so does our sleep.

7. Healthy Habits While Eating Out

I love cooking.  But even someone like me gets a little tired of cooking every day of the week.

According to Zagat in 2018:

Diners eat out on average 4.9 times per week for lunch or dinner.

That's not even including the daily run to Starbucks in the morning…

If you look at the math you have 14 total lunches and dinners in a 7 day week. That means that a third of our meals (on average) are away from home.

It's no wonder that more than 1 in 3 adults in America are considered to be overweight according to the NIH.

Eating out is something that we will never completely abandon, but we can make a conscious effort to improve our healthy habits while eating out.

Blogging about healthy eating habits while at your favorite restaurants or even fast food restaurants would help a lot of people feel a little bit better about their dining options.  While I was on the Keto diet, one of the best pieces of information my nutritionist gave me was a one page sheet with a big list of local restaurants with what I could order from their menu that was keto friendly.

Everyone “wants” to be healthy. Everyone eats out.

“There are so many moving pieces to a blog that people
don't see, and creating content is only a fraction of it. If you want it
to succeed, it will take a lot of time, effort, and learning to wear
many hats… Outsource parts of it as soon as it starts
earning enough to do so. Free up your time doing things you hate, are
not good at, or have low return, so that you can focus on what you truly
love and what will have the biggest impact.”

8. Who Needs a Gym Pass Anyway?

According to rough data, it's calculated that around 45 million adults in the U.S. have an active gym membership.  That's roughly 14% of the population.

What are the other 86% of people doing to stay fit?

There are a lot of excuses for why people don't exercise including:

  • Don't have the time
  • Don't have the money
  • Don't have the equipment
  • Don't have the motivation

Remember seeing those infomercials for the Bowflex every day 10x a day? Maybe not… But I do!

Gone are the days where you need a $500 home fitness machine to take up an entire room of your house.  There is an infinite number of home-based exercises that can be done with a couple free weights (or even household items) some rubber exercise bands, or even just your body weight.

Blogging about different types of home-based simple exercises is a great idea for a blog niche in 2019.

canning blog

9. Canning Isn't Just for Farmers

Canning has been making a bit of a resurgence as of late.  It's no longer something your grandmother does for her famous Raspberry Jam.  Everyday people are getting involved with canning.  If you're on Pinterest, there's a good chance you've seen a canning pin show up in your feed.

Homesteading is another blog niche that people are finding success with.  It's the idea of growing or raising most of your food at home.  You don't need a full scale 3 acre farm to do it either.

If homesteading isn't your thing, canning can be!

You don't even need to grow your own crops for canning if that doesn't interest you.  Simply the process and idea around canning is something that people are interested in.

The nice thing about the canning niche, is that people who like canning LIKE CANNING! It's a great niche to build a loyal following.

dj blog

10. Yo' DJ

The very first blog I started was about making music.  I still love music and I still think it's a great blog idea that's underserved.

Most people who love DJing don't love spending their time writing about DJing.  There's not a ton of great DJ blogs out there and you don't need to be Martin Garrix to have a great DJ blog.

Great football players don't always make the best coaches.  Some of the best coaches were the kids who sat the bench as a walk-on or didn't even play in college at all!

Vince Lombardi (considered by some the greatest coach of all time) never played in the NFL.

If you love DJing and have a gnack for teaching others or sharing your thoughts, as a fellow DJ'er I can promise you there are other young DJ's out there who are looking for your advice.

ceramics blog

11. Ceramica

Hand made pottery and ceramics are no longer just a fun day in 5th grade art class.  Adults are falling in love with making mugs and flower pots all over again.

According to Pinterest trends to watch for 2019:

Ceramics have been a thing since Ancient Mesopotamia. But in 2019, handmade plates and bowls are really kiln it. (Searches for ceramic pottery +475%)

Love the pun there!  Well played Pinterest.

Ceramics are fun for kids and adults of all ages, and I don't think most people understand how to do pottery at home.  If you like ceramics I think there's an opportunity for you.  It's a great niche for some affiliate marketing and brand deals as well!

finances blog

12. Saving for a Rainy Day

Finance blogs are very popular blogging sites and they also happen to be very lucrative.  Some of the most financially successful bloggers are blogging about money.

Finance blogging is a very competitive niche and it can be difficult to break through as a new blogger, but the rewards may be worth the work.  It's going to take time and patience, but I do still believe there is room in the market for new bloggers.

“The key to succes with competitive niches like finances is to really niche down and nail your target audience.”

Blogging about “finance” isn't going to help you stand out from the crowd.

Blogging about saving money for emergencies as a family with young children in the U.S. is a much more focused niche.

The people who care about bitcoin investing might not care about saving up for diapers before having a baby.  Look for a target demographic, find their financial needs and worries and go for gold!

“Focus on one platform at a time. Get really good at Pinterest (this will bring you traffic the fastest) before moving on to other social media platforms. If you try to be present on all of your social accounts and keep up with creating unique content it is easy to burn out.

Create your pages for all of your social accounts, but don't worry about posting much on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram yet. This makes sure that your desired handle is saved, but you don't have to be cranking out content for your blog and multiple social accounts.”

13. Why is Old Stuff so Interesting?

One man's trash is another man's treasure.  Or one lady's old washing board from 1923 is another woman's $250 corner piece in the living room in 2019.

I don't understand why, but we as humans put an immense value on old stuff.

The interesting point to make is that although we still are fascinated by old things, the market for antique prices is actually dropping.  This means that you can get that $100 antique lamp for $25.

How will this affect the future?

I can't really say for sure, but I think there's some creativity left in this space as far as blogging goes.

Aside from antiques, simply turning the old into new is a trend that continues to do well on Pinterest and other social sites.  Restoration projects and DIY makeovers are fun and fulfilling for the home improver.

What are some DIY restoration projects that interest you?

wedding blog

14. Just Get Married in the Backyard!

I don't know if there's something we love/hate more than weddings.  The entire planning and process of the wedding itself end's up being quite a lot of work for the wedding party.

Not to mention expensive.

The average wedding cost in the U.S. in 2018 is $33,391.

As prices for venues continue to climb, more people are turning to their own backyards for weddings and receptions.

But how do we make it look good???

That's where you come in!  Blogging about backyard wedding planning is a trend that's on the rise according to Pinterest:

Backyard weddings keep things cozy and cost-friendly (and are a great incentive to finish weeding). (Searches for backyard wedding +441%)

Renting out your backyard for weddings??? Now there's an idea too…

“Improve your photography skills or partner with someone who can take beautiful pictures. In niches such as fashion, travel and weddings, beautiful pictures are extremely important, they will be the thing bringing traffic to your site or getting you followers. Stock pictures won’t take you far, they are also not good for your SEO.”

15. Number Shaped Cakes

Call me crazy.  How on earth would someone simply blog about number shaped cakes?

Well, there are a lot of numbers… Therefore, a lot of opportunities to make cakes.

If you love baking cakes, this is a very enticing micro niche that could really bring you some traction and credibility for someone just entering the baking niche.

Starting a food blog is very competitive.  Food continues to top the charts for topics on Pinterest and for good reason!  It all looks so good!

Number shaped cakes, in particular, seem to be trending for 2019:

Here’s a cake trend you can count on: Number-shaped cakes are on the rise in 2019. (Searches for number cakes +314%)

16. Cool Props and Effects for Weddings

Back to weddings.  Why? Because there's A LOT of $$$ in weddings.  You saw the numbers above…

The thing about weddings is no one really wants to be like the “girl next door” when it comes to wedding pizaz and spark.  Everyone is looking for the next “big thing”.

Bubbles, sparklers… Those are so 2017…

What else can we do at a wedding reception to really get those likes coming in on Instagram! (That's what the ladies really want anyway right?… Sorry gents haha)

What are some cool ideas, props, or effects we can do at our upcoming wedding?  We really want to make a splash and wow the crowd!

If you've got some ideas there are young hungry couples out there ready to throw the wedding of the year!  And their dads are ready to pay for it 🙂

17. Garland Your Home

If you're a guy like me,  your next move would be to open a new tab and google: “what is a garland?”

I'll save you the work.

A garland is a wreath of flowers and leaves, worn on the head or hung as a decoration.

Now I'm not personally into garlanding my home, but apparently, there are A LOT of other people who are frantically searching for answers.

Check out these growth numbers on Pinterest for 2019:

Draped over the table, swagged around the ceiling or lined up together like a curtain, flower garlands are everywhere. (Searches for flower garland +1154%)

WOWZERS!  Who knew?

If you're a garlander (I coin that term if it doesn't exist) or like garlanding then there's obviously room for you to join the blogging party and get to work!

18. Master of Milks

This isn't as weird as it sounds.  Hear me out.

I feel like every year there's a new type of milk at the grocery store.  Cow's milk, soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk, goat's milk, etc.

Milk is an interesting topic up for debate among the health and diet bloggers these days.  Everyone seems to have a differing opinion about milk.  You can probably find at least one article about milk on almost any health or food blog, but that's where the trail goes cold 😉

It may seem farfetched, but a blog specifically about milk, the different types, the uses, the health beneifts, the risks, the alternatives, the history, the brands, anything you want about milk, I'm sure could find you readers.

Heck I'd click on an article in my feed if it said, “The Best Milk for Dipping Oreos REVEALED!”

19. Meal Prep Master Chef

If you haven't seen someone post about their meal prep in the past month you're not following enough people on Instagram.

Meal prepping is the cool slang term going around the young adult ecosystem.  I think our parents just called it “packing a lunch” but #MealPrep sounds so much more hip.

I do like meal prepping!

Every week I go to Costco and buy the six pack of Terriyaki Chicken bowls which I warm up in 6 minutes during lunch.  It's the easiest meal prep there is!

For those of you looking for something a little less frozen, there are a lot of awesome meal prep recipes out there.  Whether you're trying to meal prep to eat healthy or save money, there are a lot of ways to do it.

Blogging about meal prepping definitely has an audience and social media is all over it.

20. Fruits for Fun

We all know someone who doesn't like vegetables.

But have you ever met someone who doesn't like fruit? Like NO fruit…

I don't think they exist.  I think natural selection wiped them out early on in the history of mankind.

Fruits are fun!

They taste fun.  They embody fun in the form of candy, drinks, platters, and parties.  You can't say the same thing about vegetables.  Veggies to the common folk are the food you eat so you can eat more junk food and not feel too guilty.

Fruit is a whole different story!  If you love fruit why not share your thoughts about all the fun ways we can enjoy fruit.  Maybe even try some different fruit?

Not to mention fruit pictures always make me happy for some reason.  It's almost like you can taste it through the pictures.

21. The Keto Transformation

KETOSIS! The rage in the dieting world.  I'll be honest, I did the keto “lifestyle” (we aren't supposed to call it a diet) for about 2 months and I actually really enjoyed it.  I ended up losing about 15 lbs and felt surprisingly really good eating thick cut bacon and cheese all day.

It's really hard to explain but it's for real.

People are curious about the Keto lifestyle.  I know this because during the short time I was doing it, I got questions about it DAILY from everyone I know.  I still to this day get asked if I'm still on Keto!

Check out the Google trends for the term “Keto”:

People are hearing about it, they know what it is, but they want YOUR personal experience with it.

Oh and the celebs are all about the Keto diet too.  Just ask: Halle Berry, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian, Gwyenth Paltrow, or Tim Tebow.

22. Color Coordination in the Home

I see so many bloggers and influencers with perfect homes where everything flows and the colors fit perfectly.

Choosing the right color decorations for your home is challenging, but it's something that can make or break your design.

If you're good at home decorating or you have an eye for color there is a good opportunity for you to blog about your ideas and concepts.

It doesn't have to be full scale home decor either.  I also don't think you need to have a huge beautiful home yourself.  By simply piecing together other things you find online you can help other people find answers by doing all the research for them and presenting it to them in an easy to digest blog article.

23. Vertical Gardening

Not to be mistaken with garlanding (see #17) vertical gardening is another form of decorating that people are seemingly more interested in than they were last year.

Pinterest trends for 2019 reveals:

Vertical gardens are on the rise for people looking for some floor-to-ceiling green in their lives. (Searches for vertical gardens +287%)

Garden culture magazine also reports:

Researchers estimate the global vertical farming  market value was $1.15 billion USD in 2015, and project it reaching $6.31 billion by 2022 based on it’s current growth rate of over 27-30% a year (depending on what group did the report).

Vertical gardening is something that people are trying out.  Most of these trends start at the top and work their way down, meaning if you're seeing celebrities and personalities incorporating it in their homes you're going to see a mass movement to the middle class.

Keep an eye on your Instagram feeds for vertical gardening this spring…

24. Men's Fashion for Dummies

Women's fashion blogs continue to dominate the internet, and although they aren't listed in this list, they are still a viable blog topic idea for 2019.

I went with Men's Fashion in particular because I believe it's more of an underserved market.

Something that interests me even more when it comes to men's fashion is WOMEN blogging about men's fashion.

After all… Men are dressing to impress the ladies right?  I'd rather get my info from the mouth of the person I'm trying to impress.

Women blogging about men's fashion is an interesting concept to me.  Obviously you'll need some men to help you out as models, but the thought of a woman describing what she loves about a particular outfit and how it makes her feel is a little invigorating…

That's not to say men can't blog about this!

If you've got the style get out there and share it.  Most of us men are completely lost at what we're doing.

81% of Pinterest users are actually Females.

40% of New Signups are Men; 60% New Signups are Women.

Those numbers right there prove that more men are jumping on Pinterest than ever before.  It's time to jump on the Pinterest train boys while the engine's still warming up!

25. Bags for Men

Back to back niche ideas for Men!  Man bags are creeping into existence and becoming more accepted by mass market.

I heard from an Italian stylist while in Milan a couple years ago that the U.S. is always a few years behind European fashion.

If that's the case, we'll all be carrying man purses in a few years cause every man I saw there had a bag!

I think bags are a guilty pleasure for men.  Everyone knows their functional and can be classy, but we don't want to be seen with our “murse”.  I feel that stigma changing.

What do you think about the future of the man bag?

26. Hair Styles for Men or Women

There are a lot of talented hair stylists out there.  I continue to be baffled that more stylists don't start blogs, influencer accounts, or YouTube channels around their work.

I understand the top stylists can make good money cutting hair, but a lot of the working class stylists could make FAR more money* blogging about their work than they ever could by doing the actual work.

*This applies for a lot of careers.

Aside from getting a new haircut, people are always looking in the mirror considering doing something different that day with their hair, but end up doing the same thing they've been doing every day for the past 15 years.

Am I right?

Hairstyles don't always need to involve a drastic haircut.  It could simply be using a product to arrange your hair in a particular way you've never done before.

I think styling your hair at home is a skill that can be acquired.  We just need a reliable place to go to find out how to do it.

27. I'll Make(it)up to You

Once upon a time Yuya was a teenage girl just like anyone else sitting in front of a camera filming beauty videos.

Now 8 years later she has 23 million subscribers and is making at least $41,475 per MONTH from her YouTube channel according to AdAge.

She's obviously a special case and not everyone ends up with this level of success, but as Gary Vaynerchuck says,

“If anyone who looks like you has ever done it you have NO excuse!”

I personally believe that.

If anyone has every created a successful blog about a topic you're interested in and they come from the same circumstances as you, it can be done by you too!

Beauty blogging is very popular and although there are a lot of them, people seem to congregate around their favorite personalities or people who best resonate with them.  Most of the concepts and ideas being taught are the same across all channels.  It's the person themselves that sets them apart.

Find your personality and voice and you can find success!

28. Skin Care for Men

My wife is all about her skin care regimine.  I'm not gonna say how much she spends on her $200 skin care products cause she'd get really upset at me if she found out, but I know she loves it!

I on the other hand have a much simpler skin regimine.

To be honest it's more of just a quick lotion to the face when my face feels dry.  Am I going to have wrinkly splotchy skin when I'm 50? Probably… BUT it doesn't have to be that way!

I'm not sure how much demand there is for male skin care products, but the industry is growing so some of that is going to trickle down to the men.  Especially you married men…

Skin-care sales grew by 9 percent in the U.S. in 2017. Overall, the beauty industry grew by 6 percent to reach $17.7 billion, and the skin-care category contributed 45 percent of the industry’s total gains.

What I like about this blog niche is that it's new and risky.  There is no reward without risk, and yeah you might be one of the only skin care for men blogs on the internet, but when skin care for men continues to grow over the next 5-10 years you're going to be REALLY glad you were one of the first blogs.

29. “But Mom! I'm Going to be a Professional Gamer!”

If I ever said that to my mom in 2002 she'd probably laugh at me.

If you say that to your mom today she'll probably still laugh at you… But you would have a good point!

In 2016, 43 million people tuned in to the League of Legends championshipwith peak concurrent viewers coming in at 14.7 million. To put that latter figure in perspective, peak concurrent viewers for the record-setting Game 7 of last year's NBA Finals were 44.5 million.

ESports is for real and it's here to stay.

Now I'm not saying you're going to be a professional gamer, but the cool thing about video game blogging (or vlogging) is that you don't need to be a “professional” to find success.

Kids, teens, and even adults are gobbling up as much gaming content as they can find around their favorite games.

If you're good, interesting to watch or read, have good insights or tips, you can build a good following around the gaming industry.

The nice thing too is that there are always new games coming out.  Jump on one of the next big hits soon and you might just find your way out of college. Sorry mom.

30. Cheap and Quick Recipes for Couples

It's hard to cook for big groups of people, but sometimes it can be just as hard to cook for the two of you.

Shopping for the right groceries, the right size ketchup bottles, or the proper size of roast, can be challenging.

I like to post little cooking videos on my personal Instagram stories, and I'm always surprised by the amount of DM's and comments I get from people when I see them about it.  They love watching my little videos and asking questions.

Young couples are usually always hungry but lack the funds or skill to properly feed themselves on a daily basis.  College students come to mind for me.  It seems like chicken and rice is the way to go for most young adults trying to survive on a limited budget.

I believe there's so much more out there!

There's already a ton of good cooking blogs that have amazing recipes to cook for your next family reunion.  Recipes that include 13 different spices, and 1 teaspoon of cooking Sherry that you'll use once a year.

Recipes that are more budget-friendly and user-friendly for a young married couple would really come in handy for some of the 61 million married couples in the U.S.

31. The Classic Lifestyle Blogger

This blog topic idea is my copout so when someone comments and says, “I can't believe you didn't include ______ on your list!”

I can say, “Yes I did.  It's #31.”

The lifestyle blogger is the blogger who can't pick a niche (or doesn't want to) and blogs about anything and everything under the sun that tickles their fancy.  The possibilities are endless with lifestyle blogging, but there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to successful lifestyle blogging.

  1. Focus on Pinterest. Pinterest will be your best friend as a lifestyle blogger.  Being able to blog about baking muffins one day and doing your lashes another day will come in handy for pinning to a multitude of different boards.  Find the pins that are going viral and cover that same content!
  2. Be authentic. Too many bloggers are trying to be other people because they became famous and they want to be famous too.  There's so much of that now that people can sniff out the phonys.  Just be you!  People appreciate authenticity.
  3. Be visual. Lifestyle bloggers do well with a lot of original photography.  Don't go raid the stock photo library for all your images.  Be as transparent and real as you can and show people you're real experiences.  They'll appreciate that.

Is lifestyle blogging a niche? I don't know…

Is it popular? Yes.

32. Mother of All Boys or All Girls

There are a multitude of successful mommy blogs on the internet.  Moms are sharing their knowledge and experience with raising children.

An interesting niche topic idea for a mommy blog would be specifically catering your content to a mom with all boys or all girls.  You'd of course need to be a mom (or dad) in this situation for it to really work, but I really like the “niche down” concept here.

There are different challenges from raising all boys or all girls, and I believe there are parents out there looking for some help or inspiration.

A mom of all boys.  A dad of all girls. Both interesting blog ideas to me.

33. Do I Spank My Kids?

Disciplining your children is a tricky task in today's world.  Long gone are the days where you could smack your kid across the bum with a leather belt and get away with it.

Corporal punishment is actually still legal in many states and countries around the world:

The Committee on the Rights of the Child defines corporal punishment as “any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or discomfort, however light”.

Whether you feel corporal punishment is acceptable under any circumstance is a totally different debate…

A debate that you could blog about!

I don't think you necessarily need to have kids to start a blog specifically about techniques for disciplining your kids.  There's a lot of research you can do and feedback you can gather from different parents from all walks of life.  This is an interesting niche to me for a podcast perhaps.  Interviewing other parents about their specific types of children and what's working and not working in the disciplining area.

“I am a mom blogger who talks about pregnancy, babies, and toddlers.  I think the best piece of advice for someone starting out is to just push publish.

I see so many bloggers getting hung up on having the right theme or writing a perfect post. It's good to take a course or two so that you understand monetisation, but blogging is truly a learn as you go activity.”

34. The Wide World of Sports

Sports blogging doesn't seem to be as mainstream as it once was.  I don't know if it's cause men are lazy bloggers and would rather tweet 140 characters about their sports insight than type out a 500 word article…

But I do still think there is room for successful sports blogging.

What road you go down with sports blogging is completely up to you… If you like blogging about sports in general, real time news updates and gossip, or if you're a die hard to one team, it all depends on what interests you.

I know a handful of sports blogs that are still doing well promoting on Twitter.

Dudes hang out on Twitter to talk sports.

If you like talking sports (or writing sports) there's definitely and audience for you on Twitter to share your blog posts.

35. Make America Great Again

Really?… You had to bring Donald Trump into this article?

The best thing about political blogs are that they are highly emotional.  Emotion is a driving force of attraction and engagement.

If you want to really ramp up the comments and engagements on your content, start posting political banter on your website.  In order to really gain traction though, you have to “stick to your guns.” Trying to please everyone pleases no one.

Hard opinions and firm beliefs in a political view or idea is what brings in the haters, but it also builds a stronger community (look up Ben Shapiro).

People are more and more interested in what's happening with government issues.  How many times did you hear something about Donald Trump this week?

Case closed.

36. “Help! Looking for New Books to Read!”

Have you ever seen that Instagram story in your feed?

I have. Multiple times.

Leisure reading is actually on the decline according to the American Time Use Survey:

reading stats

If reading is down, why would this be a good idea for a blog?

Reading can still be down, but people are still reading.  Although the numbers may have dropped, you're still seeing around 25% of all Americans reading for leisure on any given day.

That's still A LOT of people reading.

A lot of people are looking for books to read.

Book review blogs are great ways to share what you're reading and provide a little more in depth opinion or review on a book.  I'd focus on a specific type of audience.  It seems to me that most people prefer a specific genre of books and stick to that…

Find your favorite genre, nail down you're audience, and help them find that next great read!

37. Collectibles

Pokemon cards, stamps, Pez dispensers, comic books, TY Beanie Babies…

Collections are still going strong around the world.  I don't understand half of them, but it brings joy and satisfaction to a lot of people out there.

Every year people spend millions of dollars on collectibles.

The original G.I. Joe figures from 1963 now go for $200,000. The 1969 Hot Wheels Rear Loader Beach Bomb goes for $100,000. The 1980 Teddy Ruxbin now is worth $1400 and an original 1998 Furby recently sold for $700.

In fact, collectible toys for adults is growing faster than ever.  According to Klosters retail panel:

Growth from 2016 to 2017 for collectible toys has been estimated at 25% and a similar rate is expected for 2018.

Most of the rage is fuled by main stream media and movie franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, so if you have any interest in these entertainment giants there is definitely and audience for your blog content.

38. My Dog is Part of the Family

Man's best friend.  I have a dog.  Her name is Remy, and she's a mini goldendoodle and she's seriously the best thing ever.  That really is a picture of my dog.

There's something about dogs that just make you happy.  It's probably the fact that Remy gets SOOOOO excited every time I come home.  She even get's excited when I take out the trash and come back inside.  She's also extremely soft and snuggly.  Like a living teddy bear.

Most people who have dogs (or cats) treat them like a member of the family.  They love their pets like their own children.

Blogging about pets is still a very valuable niche and pet owners are always looking for interesting articles.

There are all sorts of directions you could go with a pet blog.  Look on Facebook and see what's getting the most shares.

39. Who's Looking for New Music?

I personally need to update my workout music playlist.  I'm getting tired of the same songs every day.  The problem is I'm also tired of trying to filter through all the noise on Apple music…

I just want a place I can go, or I'd even take an email newsletter each week, from someone I trust to let me know when new good music is out so I can add it to my playlist.

Imagine this for a music blog…

Every week you send out a newsletter to your email subscribers with the new good songs that just came out on Apple music or Spotify.  You write a little blog article once a week about it, maybe embed the music videos, and you're done.

I'd read that.  And I'd thank you too!  I'm always looking for new music.

40. How to Sell Products on Etsy

There's a lot of blogs online that will teach you how to sell on Shopify, Amazon, or Ebay.

But Etsy is making some noise too and there's a very specific niche audience that you could serve with that type of content.

Niche down on those artists, crafters, T Shirt makers, or whatever niche category you're interested in on Etsy and find out how you can serve those specific people.

There's a lot of people who like to water color paint, but how many of them are selling their work on Etsy?

There are 1.98 million active Etsy sellers.  85% of sellers are women.

Just thought I'd throw those numbers out there to get your mind working.

41. I Need Money for High School Lunch

I refused to eat at my cafeteria when I was in high school so my mom said, “That's fine… Here's $10 a week for school lunch then.”

I don't know about you, but $10 a week for lunch didn't really do much back in 2006 and it does even less today.  I survived off those $1 pizza slices in the courtyard.

Teenagers need money too.

A blog to help teens find realistic ways to make money online would not only be attractive to a lot of teenagers, but I think the parents would appreciate this too!

Wouldn't you appreciate someone trying to motivate your teenage kids?

According to Ahrefs data, search terms including “make money” and “teens” have very low competition.  This means that there's ample opportunity for a new blogger to come in and win some organic search traffic in this area.

One final thought…

“Money making blogs are money making blogs.”

42. They Didn't Teach Me How to Buy Insurance in College

This is one of the most baffling ideologies in today's education system.

We require students to learn the Pythagorean theorem, and make sure they understand what a Cytoplasm is, but we can't teach our kids how to buy health insurance and pay taxes?

“But Andy… They have classes for that kind of stuff…”

Yeah if you major in accounting.

I personally believe a big reason why a lot of young adults have issues with insurance, taxes, mortgages, and debt is they don't know what they're doing!

Some people go to college and never learn, and other people don't go to college and never learn.

A blog to help people not just with finances, but with just life lessons and skills to survive and live comfortably in today's world would really go a long way.

43. Sober Living

I was pleased to find that on Pinterest's trends for 2019 was sober living:

People are ditching the alcohol and opting for a sober life, turning to Pinterest for motivational quotes and non-alcoholic drink ideas. (Searches for sober living +746%)

I personally don't drink alchol and never will.  I think it does more harm than good and there are plenty of other drinks that taste good out there anyway.

Apparently other people feel the same way.

If you used to drink, but have since adopted the sober life, I really think you could provide a nice perspective on this topic that is obviously trending up in social media.

44. Action Sports For the Win

I recently went skiing for the first time in 16 years.  I used to love skiing as a kid, and living in Utah (where we have the best snow on earth) makes it easy to enjoy a lot of different action sports.

If you're into skiing, snowboarding, ATVing, jeeping, rock climbing, or any of the countless outdoor sports activities there is an audience for you!

I promise you that!

People who are in to action outdoor sports are REALLY into these sports.  They not only enjoy reading, watching, or listening about it, but they spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars every year on their passion.

That's a lot of $$$ to be made…

45. Take Me Fishing

I love fishing.  Personally I love fly fishing, but I own every type of fishing pole and happily do all sorts of fishing around here.

I put fishing blog as a niche idea for 2019 because people still love fishing, and as a fisherman myself, I find myself constantly searching the web for good articles.

Something I've noticed is a lot of fishing blogs are old, outdated, and not very well kept.

I think there's a massive opportunity for someone who loves fishing to come in and create a really clean WordPress blog with up-to-date information for people like me who want something that wasn't written in 2009.

In 2017 there were 29.6 million fishing license holders in the U.S.

Here's a fun chart from Statista about where American's spent their money on gear back in 2016 (which I think is still relevant today):

american spending on gear

Fishing is right up there!  People love their huntin' and fishin' and there is still plenty of opportunity to beat out the competition in the fishing blog world.

46. Celebrity Gossip

I don't get why people are so caught up in celebrities lives.  It doesn't make any sense to me.  However, a quick peek over on Google trends at any give time of year will show you that many celebrities dominate the search queries every year.

Maybe you're one of those people!

If you're in to that kind of stuff, why not share your thoughts about it with others.  I know there's a lot of people who like to chat about what Brad and Jennifer are up to and conspire about what's going to happen next with the Royal Family.

Timing with this type of blog is critical.

Being a first mover in the gossip world could help you gain insane amounts of traffic to your blog in just a couple hours.  Social media is where it's at!

47. All About Lashes

For a boy I actually have pretty good lashes.  That's not a picture of me don't worry!

Women LOVE eyelashes for some reason.  I'm not sure if it's a fad, but if it is, it's been around for a long time and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

Beauty blogs and makeup blogs will of course touch on lashes, but I think there's room for more niche specific eyelash experts to come in and make some noise.

If you're good with the lashes, I'm sure there's a sizeable amount of women ready to read what you have to say.

48. The Glorious 1980's

It seems like the 80's are making a big comeback as of late in pop culture.  You hear it's influence a little more in music, you see the fashion starting to make a comeback…

I pray we never see that hair again though… What were you all thinking back then?

A 1980's blog could be fun for that generation.  We are now roughly 40 years past that era, so the teens and young adults who grew up in the 80's are now starting to reach 50-60 years old and their kids are now entering the teen-young adult stage of life.

A lot of those kids are curious to see what on earth their parents where doing back then.

Not to mention we are seeing those old crusty Bon Jovi T-shirts coming out of the closet.

If we have anyone to thank for the resurgance of the 1980's vibe it's hands down got to be Stranger Things. It's a good watch!

Speaking of Netflix…

49. What's on Netflix?

My final blog topic idea on the list is all about Netflix.  Who doesn't love Netflix?

They are the king of online video streaming, and while they did have a lull a few years ago, they are making a roaring comeback!  (Glad I got those stock shares when I did…)

In just one quarter, Netflix added half as many new subscribers as Hulu has total subscribers.

With all new original movies and shows coming out monthy, there's all sorts of good stuff on there to enjoy.  Sometimes too much stuff!

Ever spent more time browsing for a show to watch on Netflix than actually watching the show?

That's where your blog will come in handy.

You watch the shows, leave your feed back and reviews, and help people decide what shows are worth their time.  It's the best of both worlds.  You get to binge watch Netflix AND make money from your blog about it!

You might never have to leave your couch again!
